Idiots Should Never Own Guns

I got a little scared watching this video, I will admit, because I had been contemplating taking my friend out to the range with me to show him how to shoot trap, and he wanted to bring a 10-22 to plink around. I decided after watching him handle my unloaded (but theoretically loaded) Remington 870, and decided he did not have the safety and training to handle my firearms, so he will not be going to the range with me. This video affirmed what I had been thinking, because gun accidents really aren't about guns, they could be with cars too, because what makes it turn from recreation to an accident in the blink of an eye is stupidity and lack of handling safety. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, because I know all of my readers are trained gun owners, but it's still a great reminder to see what safety really means.

  2. You speak from a bad experience? Personally I'm afraid of people dropping my gun and people who turn around because they get all giddy.

  3. Yep. People who should know better but do stupid shit like absent-mindedly pointing their gun at you. All it takes is one second and you're on your way to DNS.

I also make a point of immediately reporting anyone I see at a range acting stupid to the rangemaster. Gun safety is paramount in shooting. There can be no compromises.

  4. I have seen that video and your right...gun safety is paramount. Working on a range can be a very unnerving job. 99% of the folks are great, but that 1%'makes my heart go thumpity thump. I am a safety freak.

  5. Definitely, safety comes first. Luckily there are a lot of ranges out there where noobs don't go, like the Rod and Gun club i posted about. It seems like the places where the stupid people gather is out in the woods, not on the local range. But you are right, its unnerving when you don't know who that 1 shooter is that is going to be unsafe.

  6. I've seen my fair share of idiots at ranges. Many people THINK they know gun safety, or have been handling them so long they get complacent.

    1. Very good point. Years with hands on a gun does not equal safety with a gun. Most of the time its old people I see, who have been shooters alltheir life, swinging the muzzle around every which way. Silly geezers.

  7. Probably one of the most frustrating thing in those videos (besides the obvious, inherent danger) is seeing all those idiots that put their girlfriends behind high-recoil firearms. Nothing like just watching potential new shooters get ruined immediately.

    1. Yeah exactly, almost like stealing candy from a baby. Like the girl who drops the shotgun and says "Alan!!!"

  8. Truly said, If a person is having a mental problem than he should not carry a gun, because it could be dangerous for others.
